The rise of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and their impact on various industries continues to expand. Sorare, a fantasy game and marketplace, has recently announced the launch of its 3D digital football player cards integrated with augmented reality (AR) capabilities. This development signifies an exciting advancement in the blockchain industry, pushing the boundaries between physical and digital fandom.
Sorare’s 3D digital player cards will be introduced in the upcoming 2023-24 Sorare Football season. These cards will be available in Sorare’s web and mobile apps, initially released on iOS. Users, also known as Managers, will have the unique opportunity to interact with the player cards in the real world through the app.
To ensure an exceptional user experience, Sorare has designed bespoke frames for each of Europe’s top leagues, namely the Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga, and Serie A. While the specific details of each frame are yet to be announced, Premier League players’ cards will be the first to hit the marketplace on September 13. The Premier League even tweeted that these new cards will be “3D, interactive, and tangible in real life.”

Sorare’s mission is to redefine the act of collecting football cards by bridging the gap between physical and digital realms. The team has put tremendous effort into designing these 3D digital player cards to captivate users. The backgrounds of the cards have been meticulously crafted to create a visually striking 3D effect, enhanced by dynamic reflections and lighting. The addition of a frame connecting the front and back of the card adds depth, bringing a tangible quality to the virtual experience.
Sorare’s attention to detail goes beyond aesthetics. The card information is thoughtfully structured, with league and season data displayed at the top and player data at the bottom. However, player photography plays a key role in the overall design. As thousands of cards are minted each season, scalability becomes a crucial consideration. While Sorare aims to test special edition cards with different photography in the future, they acknowledge the complexity of scaling such a project.
In anticipation of the launch of the 3D digital player cards, Sorare has also announced a thrilling 3D Card Virtual Treasure Hunt that spans three cities. Participants will embark on a quest to find the key to an Ethereum wallet, which consists of a master password comprising 12 words. The words must be arranged correctly to unlock the wallet, withdraw the cards, and transfer them to the winner’s personal wallet. The first person to complete this treasure hunt before October 10 will enjoy an exclusive AC Milan prize package, including the opportunity to fly with the team and attend one of their European matches with VIP tickets.
The introduction of 3D digital player cards by Sorare marks another significant milestone in the blockchain industry. As blockchain technology continues to revolutionize various sectors, the integration of augmented reality and NFTs in the realm of sports fandom demonstrates the endless possibilities for innovation. Sorare’s commitment to advancing card design evolution and the incredibly immersive experience it offers users sets the stage for future exciting developments.
