Kwon sentenced to 4 months in Montenegro for fake passport.

The founder of Terraform Labs, Do Kwon, has been declared guilty of using a fake passport by a court in Montenegro and has been given a four-month prison sentence.

Kwon’s colleague, the former chief financial officer of Terraform Labs, Han Chong-joon, was also charged and received the same sentence. The Montenegro Basic Court stated on its website that the duration of detention for both men will be taken into account.

Kwon was charged with attempting to leave the country using a false passport from Costa Rica. He reportedly claimed to the Montenegro court that he was not aware that the passport he was traveling with was allegedly forged and instead laid the blame on a Chinese-named agency.

According to a report from South Korean news outlet Segye Ilbo on June 17, Kwon told the Montenegro Basic Court that he had received his allegedly forged passports and travel documentation, including a Costa Rican passport, via third-party “agencies.”

Kwon stated that because he had been travelling with his Costa Rican passport “for years,” he had no reason to doubt its authenticity.

In addition to denying forgery of travel documents, Kwon denied allegations that he had made any financial contributions to Montenegro’s former finance minister, Milojko Spajić, who is now the leader of the Europe Now party.
